Designing handmade jewellery is a labor of love that requires patience, creativity, and attention to detail. It's something we love doing because it's the only way we can offer you the unique piece of jewellery you deserve. Below, we'll take you through our process of designing our jewellery, from the initial concept to the final product.
Our design process always starts with inspiration. Inspiration can come from anything - a beautiful piece of fabric, a stunning landscape, a unique texture, or a vintage piece of jewellery our grandma owns. Once we have an idea of the kind of piece we want to create, we start collecting materials that fit our vision.
For example, let's say we want to create a statement necklace inspired by the ocean for our SS23 collection. We collect different styles of natural shells, pearls and stones to get inspired.
Once we have our materials, we start sketching out our ideas. Sketching is a crucial step in our design process, as it allows us to visualize our ideas and make adjustments before we start creating the actual piece.
Here is an example of a first sketch we might create for our ocean-inspired statement necklace.
After we have sketched out our ideas, we create a prototype of the piece. This is where we start to bring our vision to life.
We might start by laying out our materials and experimenting with different combinations. Once we have a general idea of how we want the piece to look, we start assembling it.
Once we have created a prototype, we take a step back and evaluate the design. We ask ourselves questions like:
- Does the piece look the way we envisioned it?
- Are there any elements that need to be added or removed?
- Are the materials working together harmoniously?
Based on our evaluation, we make any necessary adjustments to the design. This might involve re-arranging the materials, swapping out certain elements for others, or adding new elements altogether. This is one of our favorite parts of the creative process.
Once we are happy with the design, we create the final product. This is a process that takes place in our workshop in Athens. A final product can take up to 2 months to be made, that's why the creative process of handmade jewellery requires patience, but the result is worth it!
